New Vocal Quartet Crowdfunding Its Way to Success One Click at a Time

NEW YORK - April 29, 2015 - PRLog -- Listening to music is pervasively smart phone territory, requiring a more creative effort from singer/songwriters to connect, despite the technology that links them to a wider audience. A new vocal quartet, Quarter 2 Four, is meeting this challenge with a fresh new sound. Helmed by singer/songwriter Rick Knight, the foursome will be presenting his original repertoire of songs at The Metropolitan Room in NYC at 34 W. 22^nd St. on Sunday, June 14 at 4:00 pm. The 65-minute show features new songs and arrangements featuring the vocal harmonies of Liz McKendry, Erika Banks and Jody Mullen, with David Shenton as Musical Director.

The quartet is reminiscent of The Manhattan Transfer with new, original material, unique styling and a diverse sound that is creating a buzz. The group has crowdsourced nearly every aspect of their two-year-long ascent into the New York music scene, along the way, publishing free listens to their works in progress on Soundcloud and Facebook. The core team, along with Knight, has gone from crowdsourcing to crowdfunding with a new campaign on IndieGoGo to pay for essential musical services that take as much talent and time as producing the songs themselves.

The quartet offers classics that seamlessly reside alongside newer songs. “When you have Lady Gaga rehearsing the title number to The Sound of Music for six months so she can perform it in the same key as Julie Andrews at the Oscars, that's a significant zeitgeist as to where the culture is beginning to lean," observes Knight.

His work is as inventive as it is compelling, spanning from rock, swing and R&B to the Broadway ballad. Throughout, his mission is to reconnect the meaning behind the classic story song to a modern pop audience. “What better time than the Internet Age,” Knight adds, “to be crowdsourced by popularity rather than by the formulaic rotation of FM radio? Even in an age of computer-generated beats and ever-shorter attention spans, people ache for meaning.” The message, Knight emphatically believes, is still in the music.
