Hudson Valley based copywriter warns small businesses of "social media hype"

HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y. - April 29, 2015 - PRLog -- There are tons of "social media consultants" nowadays.

Probably too many.

And every single one of them will gladly try to sell you on the idea that all you need to do is leverage Facebook and Twitter and you'll be swimming in dough.

Not true.

At least, not for all businesses. For some, yes, social media can open a floodgate of new customers and grab you low cost exposure to a much wider audience than you can get through other means.

But ...

If a person springs a leak in their bathroom ... the reflexive action is to make a phone call. That used to mean going through the Yellow Pages. Now, it means going through Google, finding a plumber and hitting a click-to-call button.

All of that can happen in a span of SECONDS.

Not many folks go on Facebook to check out if their friend shared a post about a plumber. Or an electrician. Or a contractor. Not many folks use Pinterest to "pin" the website of the guy who fixed their broken toilet. Not many folks search Twitter for tweets about sheetrocking a basement.

(IF they do, it's more than likely because they want an instructional video so they can do it themselves ... not to hire someone.)

Search engines still bring the lion's share of prospects for almost all trade businesses.

However, all they can do is bring them to your site.

Once there ... it's up to your SALES COPY to get folks clicking to call. And most social media folk can't create that kind of copy. If anything, they've been trained to mimic celebrity gossip sites.

That kind of copy ... "Who's Bieber dating now?" ... might sell clicks to a gossip site.

It's NOT going to sell folks on clicking to call about getting their house re-wired. Or their bathroom fixed. Or their basement sealed.

What you need is a direct-response copywriter. Because we write with literally ONE GOAL in mind ...

To sell.

That's it.

Isn't that why you want a website in the first place?

To get more calls. To get more sales. To get more customers. To make more money in your business.

You bet it's the reason.

So ...

If you are SERIOUS about getting folks to click to call because they want to hire you ...

Consider hiring someone who's only goal is to do just that. A direct response copywriter doesn't want any limelight. They don't want to write flowery prose. They don't want to secretly become some sort of celebrity publicist.

We write to sell.
