When Matt Schaedler was looking to expand his business, Schaedler Enterprises Incorporated, he needed only to look right next door. Bordering his existing property was the Classic Inn Hotel, which had recently been put up for sale. Needing the space for his expansion, Matt purchased the hotel property in January 2015 with plans to raze the building, but didn’t yet have a plan for handling the contents inside the building. The facility held 104 rooms, each containing bedroom sets, dressers, lamps, nightstands, tables, chairs, and many that included refrigerators and microwave ovens. In addition, the storage area of the hotel had usable building materials such as windows, drywall, and plywood, along with lawn care equipment – much more than the new owner expected to find. Matt reached out to long-time friend, Kirk Guy, President of IPS, and the two began making phone calls – looking for local charity organizations that might benefit from the hotel contents. The first phone call was to Jane Moore of the United Way, who provided the name of two organizations that were in need of supplies and currently accepting donations – The Epworth Furniture Ministry and Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity. SEI and IPS began organizing volunteers at their respective firms. Beginning on April 8, through April 18, volunteers moved 12 truckloads of goods from the old hotel. In addition, IPS donated storage units to hold the contents until the organizations were ready to receive them. In total, the Epworth Furniture Ministry received 20 bed sets, 50 lamps, 10 microwaves, along with many tables, chairs, nightstands, and dressers. Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity was the recipient of the building supplies and lawn care equipment. Ed Bardi, Director of the Epworth Furniture Ministry stated “The numerous items the Epworth Furniture Ministry received from the Classic Inn will help many Toledo area families.” Kirk Guy of IPS said “Matt Schaedler and I have been friends for over a decade. When he purchased the hotel, we knew it was a great opportunity to help others and give back to the community. We are thrilled that the items have found a new home and will be put to good use.” For 30 years IPS has provided integrated Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Maintenance, and Fabrication services throughout North America. With nearly 400 employees serving the health care, educational, manufacturing, refining, and federal government markets, IPS is able to deliver fast, reliable services that exceed expectations.
