Reperio Records Sets Out To Change Music Industry

Freedom of Music philosophy defies label censorship, provides platform for unsigned artists and bands with small labels

ARDMORE, Okla. - April 28, 2015 - PRLog -- “Reperio Records started with the idea of sharing unsigned acts with the world,” says Director of Marketing, Lisa Wilkinson, “but as we researched the history of music and the music industry, it became so much more.”

Reperio Records, the brainchild of founder Mike Tierce, was supposed to be a marketing forum for unsigned bands, but with research, the staff soon discovered that 85% of radio air play was controlled by only three record labels. They realized that Reperio had the power to overcome label censorship.

“Music is so powerful, “says Mike Tierce. “We realized that music is more than entertainment. Music has the ability to move people, to bring them together. We discovered that the artists were being censored by the labels, and that we, as listeners, were being censored, as well, and listeners were missing out on something powerful.”

“That’s when we decided we didn’t just want to provide a service,” Lisa adds. “We wanted a revolution. There are artists all over the world with important messages.  We want to make sure those messages are heard. “

The mission of Reperio is to provide a platform for musicians to be heard, regardless of label affiliation. In the current music landscape, only a very small percentage of bands, almost exclusively those signed to major labels, will ever gain an audience outside of the region they are based in.

“Stations are paid to play songs by artists with big labels.  If you aren’t with a big label, you can’t afford to be played,” Mike explains. “Reperio wants to see that change.  We don’t believe the labels speak for everyone.”

Through their service, any unsigned band or band signed to a small label can submit songs for play on the Reperio website and app. The staff screens for quality of production only, not for content.  The goal is to always provide a platform for artists to be heard, regardless of style, content, or genre.

“All music should be heard.  Musicians should heard, not censored.  And we, as listeners, should have the freedom to hear it, to choose for ourselves,” Lisa asserts.

Reperio Records plans on launching their Kickstarter campaign to fund the completion of the app and website in mid-May, 2015.  With funding, both will be fully operational in July, 2015.
