CHARLESTON, S.C. - April 28, 2015 - PRLog -- Infertility is a symptom, not a diagnosis.  Often, infertility patients rely on each other for support.  In Her Words is a look at the infertilty journey through a former patient's perspective.

At The Fertility Center of Charleston, women and men find the root cause of infertility in a fertility evaluation with Dr. Stephanie Singleton. There are many causes of infertility that a timely evaluation help pinpoint. Fertility treatment options are effective and vary based on the individual. A fertility evaluation is critical to providing good information for the selection of optimal therapy.   One patient hopes her experience with The Fertility Center of Charleston will encourage others to schedule an initial consult.  She states, "My experience was such a wonderful and very important experience in our lives. I was treated so kind and I felt special. I felt like everyone cared about helping my husband and I to achieve our dream of having our miracle."

Former patients have advice for new patients or those considering fertility treatments and they all agree that having a support system is important during infertility.  One patient explains, "I am very blessed to know each and everyone that took part in this journey that we have been on.  At The Fertility Center of Charleston, I was always able to talk to my nurse when I had questions or concerns. She always made time for me and answered my many questions. Dr. Singleton always took time to answer mine and my husband's questions during our visits.  Dr. Singleton was so kind and patience with me. Dr. Singleton would explain things to us, even if it was not the greatest news, with kindness and always gave us hope. She has such a sweet and kind disposition about her. It's very scary going through this journey, but Dr. Singleton and her staff always made me feel at ease."
Female patients also say how a patient is treated is important.   Says one, "I was surprised that I was treated like a person and not just a number. I was surprised how caring and supportive everyone at The Fertility Center of Charleston was to my husband and I. Most specialized doctor offices do not make you feel special and that your are important, but Dr. Singleton and her staff always made time for me and made me feel like a person."

Infertility patients often look to those that have been through the process for advice.  These Fertility Center of Charleston patients share what they have learned, "The advice I would give is never give up. It is a very long and rough journey but in the end it is very worth it."  Another encourages women to focus on fertility sooner rather than later.  She says, "Don't wait. Although it's hard to go through treatments, the time and effort is worth it."   Asking questions is important part of the journey advises another.  She states, "I would advise all patients to ask any questions they may have no matter how simple they may think they are. Do not ever be shy about your fertility treatments and to always be patient. Fertility treatments can be easy or hard but everyone's journey is different so prepare yourself for the roller coaster of emotions you may face."

Patients feel it is important to feel comfortable with the staff and reproductive endocrinologist that they are working with as they often become like family.   States one, "At the Fertility Center of Charleston we we're always greeted with a smile. No matter how busy the office seemed to be we never had to wait long. The staff treats everyone with courtesy and respect. We never felt out of place or as if our questions were unwanted. The staff was very prompt in returning any inquiries we had and we felt like family. Getting pregnant and graduating was a bitter sweet moment. We will miss everyone there."
