Reliance Power Triumphs in Sasan, Madhya Pradesh

DELHI, India - April 28, 2015 - PRLog -- On the 22nd April, 2015, Reliance Power –an artery of Reliance Group, one of India’s largest business conglomerates- announced that it has now attained Power Station Commercial Operation (COD) of 3960 MW. This whopping feat was achieved at the Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project, Madhya Pradesh, India. It was done by the method of operating all six of its units, comprising of a total of 3960 MW, continuously for the entirety of 24 hours.

Reliance Power’s ambitious Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project, upon completion, successfully became the single largest integrated power plant cum coal mining project at a single location across the entire globe. A monumental accomplishment in itself, it was made possible with an investment of over Rs. 27,000 crore. With such a large figure, Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project has now become the only power project within a single location in the state of Madhya Pradesh to be backed with an investment of this proportion.

Coming to the project’s achievement, the Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project in Madhya Pradesh was build such that it had the capacity to reach a COD of 3960 MW. By fully investing in the project, Reliance Power has now been able to attain the project’s full potential of producing 3960 MW by operating the project for 24 hours continuously. Prior to this triumph, five units of 660 MW each, allowing for a total of 3300 MW had been commissioned in just about 12 months. Now, having surpassed that benchmark and having attained its full potential of 3960 MW, the project at Sasan has been commissioned 12 months ahead of the PPA Schedule.

On a related note, coal production at Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project has already commenced at the Moher and Moher-Amlohri coalmines. It has thereby become fully operational for the production of up to 20 million tonnes per annum.

With all of Reliance Power’s operational power projects, its generation capacity now stands at 5945 MW. The breakup of the total power generation includes 5760 MW of thermal capacity and 185 MW of renewable energy-based capacity.
