LEESBURG, Va. - April 27, 2015 - PRLog -- Oatlands is pleased to host Champagne and Strawberry High Tea on May 17 and 31. Tea will be held from 1- 3 p.m. in the historic Emmet House at Oatlands Hamlet. The Champagne and Strawberry High Tea includes a private mansion tour and access to the garden. Both the Carter family and the Eustis family, previous owners of Oatlands, have a history of hosting strawberry festivals to raise money for different charitable causes.  These high teas are meant to showcase the philanthropic history of the Eustis family, with the event proceeds supporting the purchase and operations of the newly acquired Oatlands Hamlet.

Guests start their afternoon with a private tour in the Oatlands Mansion. Guests will hear about over 200 years of Virginia and Loudoun County history in the magnificent 1804 Greek Revival mansion. Oatlands is a non-profit organization and a designated National Trust Historic Site nestled in scenic Virginia horse and wine country.  The estate offers beautifully preserved rural views.

After the mansion tour guests move down the historic lane to the Emmet House Country Estate.  The estate features a hand-painted mural by Olin Dows (1904-1981).  Dows first developed his interest in scenic landscapes during his early years on his family’s two idyllic estates, Glen Burn and Fox Hollow.  Dows must have taken particular pleasure in designing this one of a kind mural for Mrs. Emmet, a personal friend.

High tea begins with each guest receiving a glass of champagne, with a fresh strawberry on the side. Guests will then enjoy a seated high tea featuring Oatlands special afternoon tea blend, fresh brewed strawberry iced tea, and several other strawberry related delicacies. The high tea menu will also feature several savory selections from Windows Catering Company, including lemony crab cocktail sandwiches, BLT bites, Thai chicken salad petite sandwiches, goat cheese and watercress tea sandwiches and egg salad with asparagus minis.  No tea would be complete without traditional flakey scones served with whipped butter, clotted cream and sweet strawberry jam.  Dessert will highlight all things strawberry with; assorted miniature friandise, pink and red macaroons with chocolate ganache, tuxedo covered strawberries and miniature fruit tartlets.

Reservations are required for the Champagne and Strawberry High Teas.  The cost is $60.00 per person plus tax with a special discounted rate for Friends of Oatlands members of $50.00 per person plus tax.  Reservations can be made by calling 703-777-3714 and more information about the event can be found on the Oatlands special strawberry page www.oatlands.org/strawberries.
