Volunteers from India celebrate their journey at Destination India

Go Eat Give, an Atlanta based nonprofit organization that promotes cross cultural understanding through food and travel, will be hosting Destination India at Bhojanic restaurant located at 3400 Around Lenox Rd NE Suite 201, Atlanta, GA on May 28.

ATLANTA - April 26, 2015 - PRLog -- Recently, eight Atlanta citizens traveled to northern India (New Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Wagah border and Agra) with Go Eat Give founder and India native, Sucheta Rawal. This was the first visit back to India for Mrs Malika Bowling, a well-known Atlanta restaurant critic who was adopted from an orphanage in Mumbai when she was a baby; as well as for Ms Agnes Annie Rai, who left India as a teenager to overcome her hearing impairment. Ms Rai received three degrees from SCAD despite being deaf.

The twelve-day tour gave an eye-opening look at India’s diversity of religion, architecture and food, and supported local humanitarian projects. The travelers volunteered at a women’s safe house, a village project and an orphanage, as well as donated items requested by these place. “We think we cannot make a huge difference by volunteering for a week or so, but the impact of someone receiving even an hour of your time is priceless. The women at Savera shelter look forward to our visit all year, dressing in their best attire, and taking the day off from work. They are amazed that we Americans have traveled half way around the world to be with them,” says Rawal.

At Destination India, people will have the opportunity to hear from these travelers, and how they were personally impacted by the journey.

Special guest speaker, Jagdish Sheth will talk about his personal life experiences and well as the education system in India. Sheth was born in Burma (now Maynmar) in a Jain family, and immigrated to India as a refugee in 1941. He studied at MIT, Columbia and University of Pittsburg, and now serves as a Professor of Marketing at Emory University. Sheth has authored over 200 articles in leading journals and many books, including The Accidental Scholar and The Self Destructive Habit of Good Companies.

Tickets for the event are $35 for members and $45 for non-members, and include food, speaker and entertainment. Tickets may be purchased at https://goeatgiveindia.eventbrite.com
