Ayush Kasliwal Furniture Design (AKFD), now Ayush Kasliwal Design Private Ltd. (AKDPL), is the brainchild of Ayush Kasliwal, an alumnus of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.  AKFD Storey, interdisciplinary design company, based in Jaipur, is launching its’ showroom with the complete range of products on Saturday 25 April 2015. The launch takes place during ‘Maahi Roj’ – where Earth Day is Every Day –a ten-day exhibition by AnanTaya, AKDPL’s craft and culture retail space, featuring likeminded, eco-friendly brands from across India; celebrating our integral relationship with earth.

AKFD Storey opened its’ first retail space in Bengaluru last year, and gathered an overwhelming positive response to the showroom with its’ stunning range of products. This year, AKFD Storey is all set to expand the first Indian Luxury Lifestyle Brand with a complete design experience of Showroom and Factory side by side in Jaipur.

AKFD Storey is a design-driven, quality-conscious company involved in the manufacturing of artisanal furniture, lighting and accessories that are finding their way around the world. Through their inclusive business practices they support local craft traditions and technologies by providing capital, technology, design and marketing interventions, simultaneously showcasing India’s artisans, culture and design capability.

To AKFD Storey, it is equally important to innovate, and to preserve skills. The fascinating range of products – from the ergonomic ‘Asan Chair’ with yogic capabilities in a modernist mode, to the ‘Jeeves Standing Lamp’ that takes a piece of literary humor and animates it to read by, to the 2060 Range ‘Shard Pen’ a miniature version of London's tallest building, that opens to become a fine writing instrument. These design driven products are conceptualized to utilize artisanal skills and small batch production for meaningful and timeless products. Using traditional, recycled and repurposed materials, most of them sourced in India, with ancient processes or completely new inventions, AKFD Storey creates products that appeal to discerning, quality-conscious and perceptive clients.

In 2006 (AKDPL) ‘Ayush Kasliwal Design Pvt. Ltd.’ began with the brand ‘AKFD’ (Ayush Kasliwal Furniture Design) and soon after the retail brand, AnanTaya (Contemporary Crafted Ideas), as well as a design studio, and MELA an R & D platform for artisans, all  located in the heart of Jaipur. In a relatively short span of time, AKDPL has built a great reputation, received attention from the worldwide media and gained international recognition. AKFD products are part of many private collections and are being used by prominent Architects, Designers Showrooms, Builders and Personalities. Some of the best design stores in the world present the works of AKDPL in London, Paris, Tokyo and New York. Their clients include Tom Dixon, Conran Shop, Anthropologie, William Sonoma and Crate and Barrel.

AKDPL and its’ founder Ayush Kasliwal have been recognized internationally with the UNESCO seal of excellence award in 2007 and 2008. In September 2008, Ayush was showcased in the Talents a La Carte section of ‘Maison et Object’ in Paris. The design company Edition Nouveau Objet (ENO), launched Ayush as a designer, alongside Arik Levy and Paola Navone. He is the only Indian designer to license products to MATER, a Danish ethical design house. He was a finalist in for British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur 2011 Awards the same year as he completed a major art installation commission of “Mudra and Disks” at the Canyon wall of Terminal 3 at the Delhi International Airport, a visual feast for arriving passengers.  Ayush Kasliwal was also the Elle Decor International Design Awards (EDIDA) winner of 2013.

Global curating of bespoke products

·         White Pomegranate connects AKFD Storey with South India, specifically Karnataka. The brainchild of Harmeet Kaur Ghumman educated and apprenticed in England, who returned to India to launch White Pomegranate in order to fill the void in the innovative upholstery space for contemporary living. Customization is possible for both colours and techniques. The textiles are handcrafted prints, embroideries and ikats with a strong sense of geometry that recurs unassumingly in nature.

The Street Level of AKFD Storey is home to innovative Furniture, Lighting and Accessory design using honest materials, artisans’ skills and India’s riches. The Floors of the organization contain vignettes of delights, manufacturing, refining and presenting products.  The Office is a Loft full of unlimited potential envisioned through collaborations between artisans and designers. The Penthouse is the place you create your dream space with AKFD Storey products and design consultation.

At our new showroom, the complete range of AKFD Storey products will open your mind to the possibilities of approachable Indian design. We have created a series of ‘vignettes’ combining furniture, lighting and accessories to catch your imagination.  The consultation desk, with knowledgeable staff, will answer your questions and help you to make plans.  Other tables with catalogues, swatches and material samples are there to assist you in customizing your choices. We want you to envision your living or working space and make your own ‘Storey’ by having a complete design experience.
