CHICAGO - April 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Today Brownfield Listings, the leading online redevelopment marketplace and project workspace, announced a strategic partnership with the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) to enhance and expand the experience for attendees of the 16th National Brownfield Training Conference (a.k.a., Brownfields 2015), which will take place September 2-4, 2015, at the Hilton Hotel in Chicago. Brownfields 2015 is the largest national event focused on redeveloping brownfield properties and creating more sustainable communities and will bring together thousands of attendees from the private sector, local, state, and federal agencies, nonprofit corporations, community groups, and academia.

To promote project development and stakeholder dialog, Brownfield Listings will support the Economic Redevelopment Forum at Brownfields 2015 by providing free subscriptions and exclusive features available only to conference attendees. Building a technology bridge to Brownfield Listings' cloud infrastructure will empower Brownfields 2015 attendees to share property and project information and connect to other redevelopment stakeholders before, during, and after the conference.

“ICMA has successfully partnered with EPA to develop the Brownfields conference over the years and bring thousands of industry professionals and decision makers together to collaborate and learn the latest in the assessment, remediation, and redevelopment of contaminated sites and challenging projects,” says ICMA Executive Director Robert J. O’Neill, Jr. “It is partnerships such as the one forged between ICMA and Brownfield Listings that contribute to the continued growth of this unparalleled event within the industry.”

The Economic Redevelopment Forum has been a staple offering at the National Brownfields Training Conference since 2004. Originally, the forum focused on hosting an on-site opportunity for property owners, redevelopment agencies, and communities to market their properties directly to the real estate development industry during the conference. In recent years, the forum has expanded its reach with an online, map-based application that allows buyers and redevelopers to preview properties prior to the conference.

Brownfield Listings has built a complete, end-to-end solution that integrates its fit-for-redevelopment listing into a larger network architecture, and the application is already soft-launched and set to go fully live during summer 2015. "We've gone way beyond listings," says Dan French, CEO of Brownfield Listings, "with tools for users to create and share content about properties, projects and (user) profiles."

"Building this portal for Brownfields 2015 attendees will bridge the Economic Redevelopment Forum to the full mix of functionality on our platform," says French. Property owners will be able to build a detailed "redevelopment prospectus" by answering key questions and uploading essential documents, such as an environmental site assessment, directly to the listing. Ongoing remediation and redevelopment projects can be showcased on a "project board," which French described as an "interactive multimedia data room in the cloud," that can be posted inside the Brownfield Listings marketplace or published openly on the internet for public comments and syndication across other social media channels. Buyers, sellers, vendors, community organizations and others can also build organization profiles on BrownfieldListings.com to tell their redevelopment story, which may be bigger than any one property or project.

“A new functional framework is necessary,” says French, “because barriers to redevelopment success are still too high.” Successful transactions come with higher costs but also the price of a huge amount of hard work often sustained over a long period of time compared to other real estate transactions—relegating the brownfield space to a kind of forgotten grey market status. “Redevelopment is different than traditional real estate transactions," French explains, “because there are more issues, more moving pieces, more stakeholders with more diverse interests and, of course, more legal considerations... it needs its own kind of marketplace."

By complementing the in-person experience at Brownfields 2015's Economic Redevelopment Forum with Brownfield Listings' robust online redevelopment platform, conference attendees can look forward to a new level of immersive and interactive engagement. Thanks to the strategic partnership between Brownfield Listings and ICMA, the Brownfields 2015 Economic Development Forum will launch ahead of the conference, building momentum for the event throughout the summer. Property listings will be populated, projects will be updated, and organizations will share their story and vision ahead of what promises to be the most engaged and purposeful National Brownfield Training Conference yet.
