Youth Tackle Football Expanding in North Texas Despite National Decline

April 23, 2015 - PRLog -- FLOWER MOUND, TX April 23, 2015 / PRNewswire/ ---The Flower Mound Christian Football League has announced they have partnered with two major recreational youth football leagues in North Texas to develop one of the largest recreational youth football alliances in DFW, bucking the national trend of declining enrollment.

The Flower Mound Christian Football Association (FMCFA), the Carrollton Youth Football League (CYFL), and the Lewisville Flower Mound Football Association (LFMFA) have agreed to interleague play for the 2015 season making one of the largest recreational youth football leagues in North Texas.

Starting in September 2015 teams from each league will be placed in different divisions based on age group.  Three different age groups including 7/8 year olds, 9/10 year olds, and 11/12 year olds will play each other at Toyota of Lewisville Railroad Park in Lewisville, TX, one of the most advanced and pristine youth football sports complexes in the state of Texas.

“What makes this alliance so exciting is the number of teams that will be able to play each other in each age group,” states Greg Novarro President of FMCFA.  “With most of the country seeing a decline in youth tackle football participation we are seeing an explosion in North Texas.”   Mr. Novarro believes education about the safety of youth football is the reason for this expansion. “ Statistics show that children are more at risk to get hurt or get a concussion riding their bike than playing youth football,” states Mr. Novarro.

Along with running FMCFA Mr. Novarro also educates parents and coaches via his Facebook Group called “Youth Tackle Football Safety- Parents get the facts.”  In his group Mr. Novarro posts articles, studies, and statistics debunking the recent media focus on the dangers of playing football.  Mr. Novarro and LFMFA President Clint Owen Jr plan to bring their educational efforts to the community.

“What this new football alliance will allow us to do is help more youth get involved in the greatest sport in this country,” states Mr. Owen.

“The combined agreement gives us the resources to share best practices, improve the experience for kids and parents, and get more kids involved in the game the right way.”  Mr. Owen and Mr. Novarro plan on doing community outreach programs to parents wanting to learn about the safety of youth football.  “Through understanding the real facts about youth football safety and not just reading headlines, we believe more parents will let their kids enjoy this fantastic sport,” states Mr. Novarro.

Expanding football and the exposure this will bring is what excites LFMFA President Clint Owen.  Mr. Owen predicts that each age group could have in excess of 15 teams per division which would make it the largest recreational youth football league in the area.  Mr. Owen also believes the changes his league has made to dedicating itself to the safety of the children is what has led to this kind of growth.  “Our new leadership has made rule changes, invested in the best equipment, instituted advanced coaching classes, and removed members who were not a positive reflection of our league or the community. The fact that we have a Christian football organization and a neighboring non-profit league partnering with us to bring more youth football to our area says volumes.”
