COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - April 23, 2015 - PRLog -- When Democracy Now! co-host Amy Goodman broadcasts her program from Colorado this Friday morning, Colorado Springs residents will have one more place to hear it – KCMJ. Colorado Springs’ new, non-commercial, community radio station is adding the national, award-winning news program Democracy Now! to complement the station’s schedule. “We’ve wanted to add this news program to our morning lineup; Amy’s visit to Colorado seemed an appropriate time to take the leap,” commented Dave Gardner, KCMJ’s public affairs program director.

Goodman, who co-authored the book The Silenced Majority, is speaking at Colorado College at 7 p.m. tonight (April 23) and will broadcast Friday’s show from Denver. Democracy Now! is an independent daily news program hosted by journalists Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez. The program is broadcast on the Pacifica radio network, NPR, community and college radio stations; on public access, PBS, satellite television and on the internet.

“This is a great addition to the KCMJ schedule,” noted Dennis Apuan, chair of KCMJ’s parent, the Colorado Media Justice Foundation. “Democracy Now! provides a perspective not represented on mainstream media, and that is what KCMJ Community Radio is all about.”

KCMJ’s schedule is filled with a fascinating array of thoughtful, unique local and syndicated programs. In the Springs is the newest addition to the local lineup, in which host Ryan Lowery showcases local talent and artists passing through town. Locally produced music offerings include Grass Roots Revival and Front Range Radio. Local talk shows include Reality Check, We Have Issues, Adventures in Permaculture, and many more. Recent additions to KCMJ’s syndicated lineup include Alternative Radio, Inside Europe, Indigenous in Music, Big Picture Science, Filmspotting, Rock School, and CounterSpin.

The Colorado Media Justice Foundation, which operates KCMJ, recently received IRS 501(c)3 non-profit status. KCMJ is currently streaming on the internet at www.kcmj.org. It can be heard on mobile devices via the free TuneIn app. Once sufficient funds are raised, the station will begin broadcasting at its FCC-licensed 93.9 FM frequency, expected this summer. KCMJ is a non-commercial, non-profit, volunteer-run community radio station. Its mission is to inform, engage, entertain, and empower the citizens of our community.

Photos and sound files are available. Interviews and photo opportunities can also be arranged.
