Follow on Google News | Activist Gamer Girl (12) Gets her own Avatar in NoodlesNowBy: Golden Monkey Media April 22, 2015, Los Angeles, CA. Golden Monkey Media created a special in-game character of 12 year-old video game enthusiast and activist Madeline “Maddie” Messer. Maddie has created a viral buzz in the game world when her research project of 50 mobile games showed there were very few female characters in games. Maddie played 50 mobile games for research to see how many of them offered a female character. What she found was disappointing - only 15 percent had a free female avatar, and fewer than half even offered the option to purchase one. So the sixth-grader called out the video game makers. She "wanted to start big," and submitted an opinion piece she wrote to the Washington Post. It was published in the Post under the title I'm a 12-year-old girl. Why don't the characters in my apps look like me? http://www.washingtonpost.com/ Her story has since gone viral and was picked up by NPR, TechTimes, Christian Science Monitor, BoingBoing, and dozens of other blogs and news sites. Sean Henry, founder of Golden Monkey Media contacted Maddie and her parents to see if she would be interested in being a character in his iOS mobile game, Noodles Now! After designing an avatar based on Maddie, Sean also had her record custom voice over for the game. Maddie says about her avatar: "It's so fun playing as 'me' in Noodles Now. It's really cool to be delivering noodles on a flying scooter." From Sean: “It was a real pleasure to get Maddie’s character into our game. She’s a terrific role model for young people everywhere,” About “Noodles Now!” A free to play, iOS exclusive, arcade-style, family friendly track-runner that casts the player as “Fly” (and now also, Maddie) a noodle delivery girl. “Noodles Now!” takes place in a near-future Asian world of flying cars and unforgiving aerial traffic that adds 3 vertical dimensions to standard runners. Built in Unreal and developed by a specialist in artificial intelligence (at John’s Hopkins), the game may be one of the fastest and most sophisticated 3D action games ever built exclusively for iPhones and iPads.
