Highlander Brew Co Needs Your Help

Incredible unique beers from a bold little northern craft brewery

NORTH BAY, Ontario - April 22, 2015 - PRLog -- About three years ago – shortly after Highlander Brew Co. began production in South River – the new highway through Northern Ontario was re-routed and no longer passes through the Village.

Since that time, Highlander Brew Co. has grown by distributing beer throughout Ontario. We have added new fermenter tanks to the original brewery and have outgrown the small rented space we currently share with another local business. However, the rest of the community did not do so well.

Rather than move away, we have decided to stay in South River! With the support of the local and regional communities, Highlander is creating a Destination Brewery that will encourage tourism in the area and provide a focal point for music, arts and social events. The new brewery will also, in association with a local college, become a Brewery Technician school.

The Village has secured funding for a new building to house the Destination Brewery. Now, with your help, we can complete the project. Please visit our Indiegogo page (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/highlander-brew-co-new...) to learn more about our project and help support us and our community.

We are going to bring people back to South River!

The Four Special Beers We’re Making for You

Spring

This English Style IPA like you never had is based on Chinook, Centennial and Cascade hops with 2 Row crystal malt. Spring is in every sip and the soft Labrador tea and wintergreen flavour wakes your senses to the new spring. With a slight bite at IBU 40 and a 6.0% alcohol, this is a refreshing and invigorating experience. Think of the rush of scent while walking through a forest in spring!

Summer
A rollicking good time. Aged in Tequila barrels this beer has a light honey colour. Additional flavour comes from the prickly pear and Himalayan mountain salt. For this full flavoured summer beer we use Flaked rye, Maris malt and other German wheat malts. ABV 5.4 and IBU 30 – A well balanced summer beer.

Autumn
Autumn is an English Nut Brown style of ale with the addition of apple wood smoked beached hazelnut which grows wild at the brewery near Algonquin Park. The use of Maris malt gives the beer a rich profile. Our friend M. Rheum – who makes a fantastic whiskey – has provided the oak chips and whiskey barrels for aging, providing the deep flavoured whiskey scent to the beer. ABV 5.4 with IBU 38. Depth with a slight bite but great balance.

Winter
Winter will be a comfort beer. Intense, profound flavours deriving from locally produced organic honey, along with subtle amounts of cinnamon, ginger and orange zest to remind you of all the warmth and comfort of winter evenings snuggling around the fireplace. It will be 8% ABV and low IBU of 32 to keep it smooth and balanced. Picture the sleigh ride across the snowy fields and coming home to a full, rich, balanced beer!
