By: Meals On Wheels of Georgia (MOWAG) In the state of Georgia 384,615 seniors live alone with 282,660 threatened by hunger. Meals On Wheels addresses both senior hunger and senior isolation, which are growing concerns as the life expectancy is at a record high of 78.7 years according to Meals On Wheels America. MOWAG annually holds the two-day conference as an opportunity for various meal providers and senior hunger advocates throughout the state of Georgia to meet and discuss best practices, network and connect with one another face to face regarding these senior issues and more. This year’s conference will focus on organizational communication and leadershipand kick off on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00pm with a Pre-Conference Intensive session with Mark Huffman, an Organization Development Consultant and Coach. Huffman will address several themes related to communication that are often overlooked such as being the message; truth telling; purposeful listening; and concise messaging. Later that evening a dinner will be held at the conference host hotel Hilton Atlanta/Marietta Hotel & Conference Center. Featured speaker for the evening is Keith Greene, Chief Membership Officer for Meals On Wheels America. On Wednesday morning, the conference will resume at the Cobb County Senior Wellness Center with opening remarks also being provided by Greene. “Meals On Wheels Association of Georgia is delighted that we have so many of our peers attending our 2015 conference”, said Conference Chair, Jobcy Alexander. “A few of this year’s conference topics were suggestions from those members who attended last year’s conference and filled out the conference evaluation. It is MOWAG’s goal each conference year to continue to offer best practice solutions, and offer some out-of-the-box ideas and incorporate suggestions made by our members whenever possible into the conference design.” This year’s sponsors include J. Smith Lanier and Company, Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, Accessible Solutions/SERVtracker, Compass Group USA, INC/Bateman Division, Valley Food Service, and Golden Gourmet.
