Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre in national top 10 for friends and family test

Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre has entered the national top 10 and has been identified as top in Plymouth for the friends and family test, according to figures from the NHS Confederation quarterly report on independent sector providers.

COLCHESTER, U.K. - April 21, 2015 - PRLog -- Friends and family is the measure used for whether a patient would recommend the hospital in which they have received treatment. Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre (http://www.peninsulatreatmentcentre.nhs.uk/) scored full marks of 100 per cent for ‘extremely likely’ and’ likely’ to recommend, with a proportion of 97 per cent of patients in those groups choosing ‘extremely likely’.

The hospital also appears in the top 50 across the UK for patient related outcome measures (PROMs) for hip and knee replacements.

The results have appeared just before the hospital’s open day on 25 April, when it will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the arrival of its first patient.

Patricia Warwick, hospital director at Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre, said: “Our mantra is ‘patient first’ and these results show that we’re getting it right. We use tablets to regularly gain feedback from patients while they stay with us, and we ask them to complete a questionnaire after they have been discharged, so that we have a detailed insight into what they think about us and the care we provide.

“By doing this, we’re able to use the data we collect to constantly improve and refine how we do things. My thanks go to our patients, and my congratulations to colleagues, for this superb achievement.”

Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre specialises in orthopaedic and ophthalmic surgery and it supports Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust for some general surgery, ENT and orthopaedic procedures.

At the end of last year, the treatment centre was faced with the prospect of closure when the contract to perform orthopaedic surgery was not to be re-commissioned. However, support from patients, the public and elsewhere within the NHS, as well as the fact that patients can still choose to have NHS treatment at Peninsula through the Choose and Book system, meant that management at the hospital felt there was a strong enough case for it to remain open.
