South Florida’s Iron Maidenz – In a League of Their Own

SUNRISE, Fla. - April 21, 2015 - PRLog -- Tom Hanks was absolutely right! There is a new, all-girls baseball team in town and they are out to prove, “There is no crying in baseball.” That’s right, BASEBALL; not softball.

Understanding the disparity in opportunities available for female athletes when compared to their male counterparts, the Iron Maidenz will travel to Orlando on May 30^th for Baseball for All’s first-ever, all girls baseball tournament. With 12 teams from across the US participating, the tournament will showcase the girls ability to play a game dominated by boys & raise awareness of the importance of providing equal resources for girls playing all sports, including baseball.

Encouraging others to begin or extend their baseball programs to include girls, Dr. Justine Siegal, founder of Baseball for All, commented: “If you tell a girl she can't play baseball what else will she think she can't do?"

Empowering girls to play baseball and whatever sport they love, the Iron Maidenz is comprised of:

Broward County: Madelyn Saven (Plantation), Cassandra Bonilla (P. Pines), Jessica Prieto (P. Pines), Elizabeth Avila (Plantation), Kirsten Caravaca (Miramar), Andrea Perez-Ramirez (Fort Lauderdale), Natalia Garcia (Hollywood)

Palm Beach County: Gabbie Haas (Palm Beach Gardens), Olivia Clines (Lake Worth)

Miami-Dade County: Kassandra Machado (Miami)

Lee County: Sophia Matthewson (Cape Coral)
