LAS VEGAS - April 20, 2015 - PRLog -- The Meadows School (http://www.themeadowsschool.us/) (TMS) is proud to announce that Larry Ruvo, founder and chairman of the Keep Memory Alive Foundation (http://www.keepmemoryalive.org/), will be the keynote speaker at the 2015 commencement ceremony for its upper school on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 4 p.m. The ceremony is being held in the Richardson-Beckley Gymnasium inside the athletic complex at TMS. Special recognition will go to graduating seniors including Valedictorian Daniel Chen.

Ruvo, a father of a TMS alumna, is well known in the Las Vegas community for his ongoing support associated with education and children. In 1994, after the loss of his father, Lou Ruvo, to Alzheimer’s disease, he made it his mission to establish a cognitive disease center, which resulted in his founding the Keep Memory Alive Foundation which funds the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. The Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, has become the world’s epicenter for research of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s, ALS and multiple sclerosis, as well as the caring of patients, families and caregivers affected by these diseases.

“It’s a tremendous honor to have Larry Ruvo speak and impart some of his valuable knowledge and experiences on The Meadows School community,” says Jeremy Gregersen, head of school at TMS. “Larry is an inspiring leader and role model who is a prime example of our mission to use one’s own accomplishments to better the community.”

Ruvo is also a founding member of the Nevada Tourism Alliance as well as the Council for a Better Nevada and currently serves as a board member of the Nevada Ballet Dance Theatre. He received the University of Nevada Las Vegas’ President’s Medal and was listed as one of the most Influential Businessmen of Southern Nevada in 2004 and 2009. In May 2010, he received the Angel Awards 2010 Humanitarian of the Year from In Business Las Vegas. Ruvo also received the Nevada Business Hall of Fame award in February 2013 and the Horatio Alger award for Distinguished Americans in April 2013.
