HOUSTON - April 17, 2015 - PRLog -- In March, Linbeck (http://www.linbeck.com/) received their 13th Build America Award from the Associated General Contractors of America (http://www.agc.org/) (AGC). Their construction of Tobin Center for the Performing Arts (https://www.tobincenter.org/) in San Antonio, Texas, was recognized as the winner of a 2015 Alliant Build America Award in the Construction Management New category.

Linbeck is one of the few building companies in America to have received this award multiple times. The firm previously won for various iconic structures, including Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (2013) in Bentonville, Ark., the TCU Mary Wright Admission Center in Fort Worth, Winspear Opera House (2010) in Dallas, Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart (2009) in Houston, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (2003), the Texas Heart Institute’s Denton A. Cooley Building in Houston (2002), Nancy Lee & Perry R. Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth (1999), and the Space Center in Houston (1992).

“The AGC/Alliant Build America awards annually honor the nation's most impressive, unique, state-of-the-art construction projects,” says Linbeck CEO & President, David Stueckler. Winners are chosen by a jury of peers. Entries are judged based on the following criteria: meeting the challenges of a difficult job; excellence in project management; innovation in construction techniques and state-of-the-art advancement; sensitivity to the environment and surroundings; excellence in client service; and contribution to the community.

“The project consisted of the complete renovation of the historic municipal auditorium's treasured facade while incorporating a new 183,000 sq. ft., 1700-seat, multi-purpose performance arts hall into its framework,” says Paul Sipes, Linbeck Vice President and the project’s Senior Project Manager. The municipal auditorium was originally constructed in the late 1920s and was dedicated to World War I veterans. The north side of the site borders the San Antonio River Walk and contains a plaza where Medal of Honor recipients are honored. “Performing arts projects are difficult due to their form and function,” Sipes says. “They are challenging construction projects because they always require unique systems and designs to accommodate the acoustical and theatrical needs, while accommodating unique architectural elements.”
