Follow on Google News | Helicopter Rigging by Art SferlazzoBy: R. Baker & Son In speaking with a pilot on a recent helicopter rigging project, he described the many different types of aerial projects that take place around the U.S. and the world. Helicopters are used to perform all kinds of lifts, such as rigging power grid towers and antennas to remote areas and removing mechanical equipment and junk cars left in streams and other inaccessible areas. Helicopter rigging has been involved with concrete delivery and modular home construction to some of the most remote areas in the U.S., as there is no other way to get the material to that location. Giant wind turbine towers and blades have been delivered to locations where no usable roads exist. Helicopters have rigged swimming pools and hot tubs too impossible locations on overhangs of houses where a crane rig was not feasible. Beachgoers along the eastern seaboard are accustomed to seeing small planes tow advertising banners along the shore, but helicopters are now being used for advertising purposes in all different areas as they attract so much attention. The pilot also spoke of a recent project on rigging large trees from forest areas to a new building in an urban location, working with arborists that had prepared the tree for an aerial trip to its new home in a magnificent new building as its courtyard centerpiece.
