MIDDLEBURY, Conn. - April 16, 2015 - PRLog -- MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – It was a long winter, but fear not!

Quassy Amusement & Waterpark springs into summertime action this Memorial Day weekend as Splash Away Bay waterpark and Quassy Beach open for the season. In addition, the park’s traditional Friday and Saturday evening family specials return.

“The waterfront has really become an all-day attraction here,” noted park President Eric Anderson. “The recent additions to the waterpark make it a venerable part of the guest experience.”

Splash Away Bay, with a host of waterslides, fountains and a splash pad for younger children, kicks off its 2015 season on Saturday, May 23. Quassy Beach on Lake Quassapaug opens the same day. New to the water area are cabana and beach lounger rentals, which may be reserved online at www.quassy.com.

Quassy’s 50-Cent Fabulous Fridays start May 22 with rides, hot dogs and small Pepsis only 50 cents each after 5 p.m. Parking is $7.

May 23 will feature the first $40 Saturday Night Carload special of the season. Up to 10 persons in a car receive an evening ride and waterpark wristband – after 5 p.m. – for only $40, parking included. The evening specials continue through Labor Day weekend. Quassy’s amusement park area has been open weekends since April 25 and the entire property will be open daily starting June 5.

Big Plunge In 2013

Quassy virtually doubled the size of the waterpark – formerly called Saturation Station - with the 2013 addition of a BulletBOWL® water raft ride and pair of FreeFall® extreme bodyslides, all from ProSlide Technology Inc., of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

In addition, the park also introduced a 2,000-square-foot Vortex Splashpad® by Vortex Aquatic Structures International Inc., Pointe-Claire, Quebec, Canada.

“Initially, we were going to call this children’s water play area Splash Away Bay, but decided the name was a great fit for the entire waterpark since it is adjacent to our beach,” noted George Frantzis II, a park owner. “That area (splash pad) is called the Fish Pond instead. Our guests had requested a water play area just for the toddlers, and this is exactly that! ”

The newest attractions are located next to the Saturation Station modular water play area and waterslides, all of which were the first phase of Quassy’s waterpark.

All Started In 2003

Saturation Station opened in the spring of 2003 adjacent to Quassy Beach at the 20-acre amusement park. The modular water play area was the first SCS Interactive WaterColors™ installation in the world and features more than two-dozen ways to get drenched.

Water cannons, cascading fountains and a huge dumping bucket on the center tower made the new water attraction an immediate success. It also incorporates two family waterslides from ProSlide Technology.

In 2006, Quassy added two huge Tunnel Twister™ waterslides from ProSlide to further bolster the growing demand for attractions within the waterpark

“Saturation Station is as popular today as when it opened,” Frantzis said of modular elements. “It remains an integral part of the waterpark experience here.”

As for plunging into the waterpark business in 2003, Frantzis is quick to note: “It probably saved the park. There are days when the water attractions are far busier than the amusement rides.”

Is there more in store at Splash Away Bay?

The park owners said they are always looking at ways to improve the property, but any new waterpark elements will have to wait as Quassy purchased two new rides for the amusement area of the facility for 2015.

About The Park

Quassy Amusement Park & Waterpark is in its 107th year and features more than two-dozen rides and attractions.

New for 2015 are FRANTIC, a spectacular family thrill ride, and kiddie bumper cars. Other rides include the award-winning Wooden Warrior roller coaster, Music Fest, Yo-Yo super swings, Free Fall ‘N’ Drop Tower, Grand Carousel and more.

The park also has a restaurant, redemption arcade, games, live entertainment and special events.

Season passes are on sale now at the park office and through the Quassy Web site. Company picnics, school fieldtrips and other catered events are also being scheduled through the park office at 203-758-2913.
