PUNE, India - April 15, 2015 - PRLog -- Saviant is exhibiting its IoT offerings at this year’s Hannover Messe in Germany. This event is considered to be the world’s leading Trade Fair for Industrial technology. It houses 6,500 exhibitors visited by 220,000+ footfalls in 2015’s endeavor. Exhibitors showcase their technology innovations and groundbreaking solutions in core sectors like industrial automation and IT, energy and environmental technology, industrial supply, production engineering and services, as well as research and development.

Saviant will be highlighting two of its innovative IoT based Industry solutions, one each for Water Utilities and the other demonstrating Food Services IoT adoption scenario. Majority core business enterprises can experience the vibes of our two cutting edge IoT offerings that can help companies derive solutions for their own business problem.

On the IoT front, it is there everywhere – Devices, Sensors, Cloud services and data that the businesses are using. The Objective of an IoT Solution is to take information from IoT enabled devices (connected devices with IP compatibility) periodically and notify it to the application user, and representing it using some dashboard tool.

In our first IoT solution (http://www.saviantconsulting.com/cloud-based-monitoring-a...), client is a 22 year old corporation who is a state-of-the-art Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) provider for water, gas, and electric utility markets and partners with utilities industry. It recently installed more than 500,000 “Smart Meters’ in the suburbs of California. The meters are CDMA compatible and can communicate over the Verizon Network.  The smart meters had a unique design element - batteries of these meters could not be replaced upon draining out due to which the entire panel had to be replaced. The client having over 500,000 meters installed in its water supply network wanted to optimize the battery usage thereby increasing its lifecycle. Client wanted the meter reading time be kept within 5 hours to keep up-time of meter batteries to its bare minimum. The Smart Meter Reading and Analytics Solution makes use of Microsoft Azure Services like Microsoft Azure (IaaS and PaaS), Azure Table Storage, Azure Storage Queue along with Express Route VPN and Verizon Private Network. This technology mix has capability to process data from Billions of IoT enabled devices. In this case the smart meters generate Real-Time Analytics.  With the help of Web Role, a service of Azure PaaS, we created a portal that gives real-time meter readings to the end users. Both the Water Utility Corporation as well as the Consumers have access to this portal. The MVC (Model-View-Controller) architecture formed the base to create an end-user dashboard showing statistics of water consumption time-stamped at every 5 minutes. This provided significant value in terms of usage analysis, conditional anomaly detection alerts, data inputs to billing system and CRM, meter health analysis and thus helped in keeping a watch on the entire meter network over any area. It handles 30,000 CUSTOMERS, 60,000 ORDERS/MO, 500+ CONNECTED DEVICES, 2.5-MILLION EVENTS/DAY AND 1.5 MILLION MOBILE-TRANSACTIONS/MO.

In our second IoT solution, client is a leading food service provider and ranks as Microsoft’s Top 5 client. We take information from IoT enabled devices periodically and notify it to the application user, on some dashboard. In our solution we used Azure’s Power BI Dashboard to display analytical information and store its copy on Azure SQL DB for future reference. To achieve this we used Azure Event Hub to collect data from thousands of sensors installed on trucks. This data was later retrieved using Azure Stream Analytics. This way we could implement real-time/on-the-fly analytics i.e., monitoring dashboard. We leveraged Azure PowerBI to create statistical output in the form of graphs and charts with the help of Stream Analytics. Azure SQL DB played the role of a repository to store data sourced from Azure Stream Analytics. The customer appreciated our value add in this IoT Solution. He achieved real-time visibility of his mobile assets, could deliver food produce 17% faster than earlier and could scale their operations to virtually any number of trucks, sensors, back-offices or Mobile devices. Statistically put our client’s system currently handles 30,000 CUSTOMERS, managing 60,000 ORDERS/MONTH using 500+ CONNECTED DEVICES, processing 2.5-MILLION EVENTS/DAY and 1.5 MILLION MOBILE-TRANSACTIONS/MONTH.

Evidently, the IoT concept is here to stay and revolutionize how industry operates. Predictive analytics, anomaly detection, endless scalability, asset visibility, operations optimization and similar other established extended enterprise solution are part and parcel of IoT. It is a common misconception that IoT is merely connecting IT infrastructure with some sensor, however it is system of IT infrastructure, sensors, analytics and cloud working in unison to help better business decision, functions and operations. The field of IoT is constantly evolving with every innovation in connected devices technology.
