The Long Run Marks its Relaunch as an Independent Non-profit Organisation with Zeitz Hangout

The Long Run focuses on developing sustainability of private, protected areas worldwide

LONDON - April 15, 2015 - PRLog -- The Long Run, the sustainability initiative of the Zeitz Foundation, has established itself as an independent, not-for-profit, UK-based organisation. This development represents a milestone in the global movement focused on applying the Zeitz Foundation’s “4C” sustainability philosophy to private protected areas, their local communities and nature-based sustainable tourism worldwide. To mark the occasion, The Long Run invites the public to an open, free and unscripted Google+ Hangout on Air with its visionary founder and chair, Jochen Zeitz.

The live Hangout, to be held on 22 April 2015 at 13.00 UTC, is an opportunity for the general public to join Zeitz and other directors and members of the Long Run in a discussion of how the holistic balance of Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce (the 4Cs) can help achieve long-lasting positive impact and sustainability.

Details of how to tune in to the Hangout will be published on The Long Run/Zeitz Foundation’s social media accounts:

The Long Run developed as an international program of the Zeitz Foundation. The foundation was formed in 2008 by Jochen Zeitz, Director of Kering and Chairman of its board's Sustainable Development Committee, and co-founder and co-chair with Sir Richard Branson of The B Team. In its new guise as a UK-based not-for-profit organisation, The Long Run will retain Zeitz as chairman of the new board. Other board members will be composed of elected Global Ecosphere Retreats®, distinguished members of The Long Run community and philanthropists from around the world.

“I am delighted that the initiative I set up as part of the Zeitz Foundation is now setting off on its own”, said Zeitz. “The Long Run has transitioned from an idea and philosophy into an impactful reality and an institution part of global sustainability. That is testimony to the promise of responsible enterprise beyond short-term profits and to the wisdom and commitment of the members of The Long Run community. I will continue supporting The Long Run as it evolves and look forward to discussing the opportunities this presents in our Hangout.”

Mohammad Rafiq, a conservation professional with long experience in environment and development, has been appointed as The Long Run's first CEO. “The Long Run is unparalleled in its promise and approach to practically implementing the cherished, yet often abstract, notion of sustainability. We shall resolutely pursue the mission of making the world a better place for all in The Long Run,” Rafiq said.
