Maps.com announced new early learner materials for its Field Trip Library collection of virtual, online field trips.

This latest collection brings the total selection available for schools to 18.

Newly available Field Trips – which explain complex topics or events using location-based visuals to tell the story - cover topics frequently taught during the early years of elementary school including:

Fossils
Vegetables
Zoo Animals
Fruit
Monarch Butterflies
Under the Sea

Each field trip includes a selection of places or points of interest. Students (or teachers) can navigate in the map view, and click on each point to read about or see more detailed images.

“Monarch Butterflies” explains the life cycle and feeding habits of one of the few butterflies which migrate during the winter. “Fossils” explains the different types of fossil, how they are formed and where they are frequently located.

Younger students whose diet is still a reluctant journey of exploration can find out where their dinner comes from.

Field Trip Library uses Story Map technology from Esri - the world’s largest provider of geographic data. The product is available to schools through Maps101, a subscription based resource which engages students and gives teachers lesson-ready materials for subjects across the curriculum.

Teachers can download a free quiz on Fossils, which can be used in conjunction with the Fossils Field Trip and find out more about Field Trip Library here.
