CONNOISSEURS GARDEN TOUR

A Mother's Day Tradition - May 9 & 10

Visit Eight Beautiful Private Gardens in Delray Beach, North Palm Beach, Royal Palm Beach & West Palm Beach

(West Palm Beach, FL – April 13, 2015)  The Friends of Mounts Botanical Garden today announced that it would be hosting the annual Connoisseurs Garden Tour, a Mother’s Day Tradition, May 9 & 10.

From 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, May 9, and from 11 am to 4 pm on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, participants can visit eight extraordinary gardens: one each in Delray Beach, North Palm Beach and Royal Palm Beach and five beautiful gardens in West Palm Beach. The owners of each individual garden are giving people a unique opportunity to visit at their own pace and sequence.

The eight private gardens on this year’s Connoisseur Tour include:

Hoecherl Garden

2455 Hampton Bridge Road in Delray Beach

This is truly a layered garden with large oaks and mature palms overhead and a wide variety of unusual bushes and small trees beneath them. The real wonder is at your feet. This garden cleverly encompasses over two-dozen ground covers. The front yard is covered in lush greens and then you walk thru the gate and are greeted by vivid colors and a garden house that will create garden envy in everyone. Sitting areas encourage one to relax and enjoy every aspect of this wonderful garden.

LaBassiere & Philpott Garden

251 Seville Road in West Palm Beach

Nestled away in a secluded suburban setting, this cozy cottage garden is truly a tropical paradise; mixing a variety of natives, trees, palms and perennials. This property started with nothing but sand and weeds, but now boasts 2,000 plants highlighted by pavers, shell, rocks, stepping stones and a turf area in the back. There is plenty of opportunity to explore or relax in the seating areas throughout the landscape.

Katz Garden

7287 Pioneer Road in West Palm Beach

Park on Pioneer and walk down the long driveway and you are walking through old Florida. In this pine forest, visitors will see old snags still standing, the resting place for owls at night and woodpecker homes. The A-frame house is surrounded by specialty gardens, including a patriotic “red, white and blue” one. Whimsical garden art abounds everywhere. Many areas have been left natural to encourage wild life, and there is bounty from the collection of tropical fruit trees and native plants to feed them.

Brady Garden

717 Avon Road in West Palm Beach

An intimate garden where the visitor is enveloped in the landscape, this garden is well thought out and meticulously designed to maximize the space. Billy Brady is an orchid lover and his little horticultural wonderland showcases his collection along with other epiphytes and shade loving plants. Meandering paths will lead visitors to multiple sitting areas, pool, an orchid house and an outdoor living room – perfect for year-round outdoor living. Immaculately maintained, intensely planted and a plant lovers paradise.

Lerner Garden

6800 Country Place Road in West Palm Beach

People, birds and wildlife thrive in this garden. Anchored by 130 species of native trees, shrubs, flowers, grass and aquatic plants, it furnishes the “homegrown” honeybees, butterflies and assorted native insects plenty to pollinate. Twenty-one different species of fruit trees also provide food for all. A swimming pool has recently been turned into a charming pond and rain barrels collect over 1000 gallons of water. Everyone will find new plants and ideas in this interesting garden.

Libertucci Garden

12106  61st Lane North in West Palm Beach

Joe and Betty Libertucci welcome visitors with open arms to their western garden. As they stroll this plant oasis guests will quickly see that this garden is unique and special. Bromeliads, orchids, palms and aroids surround an observation deck that overlooks their pond. The Libertuccis are involved in several local plant societies and their garden shows it.

Cummings Garden

13174  57th Place North in Royal Palm Beach

This western garden owned by the proprietors of LM Botanicals is a showstopper. Their garden is a potpourri of palms, orchids, ferns, citrus trees, tropical fruit trees, bromeliads, cactus and more. As visitors walk this incredible garden they will find this garden is huge – a tropical paradise complete with parrots and waterfalls.

Whisler Garden

748 Jacana Way in North Palm Beach

Truly a collector’s garden, Tom and Mary Whisler are very active in the Palm & Cycad Society and have a large collection of palms from around the world. The landscape is very detailed and meticulously maintained. From the eye-catching blue cycads in the front, visitors will notice that bromeliads and orchids dot the landscape, as well as a visually stunning collection of Cuban palms.
