WASHINGTON - April 13, 2015 - PRLog -- AP Archives will be showcasing its extensive video holdings during the ACSIL FOOTAGE EXPO at NY’s Midtown Loft and Terrace on April 29, 2015. Much more than a newspaper cooperative, the AP is now at the center of video newsgathering and has digitized important historical collections, including the recent digitization of 40,000 hours from the UPI/ITN archives, much of which has not been seen for 40 years.

“Many TV and video producers still think of us as a newspaper entity,” said Claribel Torres, Director of Sales for AP Archives. “But we’ve been capturing video for decades, and we’re adding footage daily through feeds from our 4000 journalists around the globe.”

Besides the material captured by its journalists, AP Archives also partners with TV operations in Russian, China, even North Korea. This, combined with historical news material from WTN (1963 to 1995) and UPI/ITN (1967 to 1985), makes AP Archives an essential source for news, public affairs, historical and educational producers.

“We also have great entertainment video,” remarked Torres. “For example, we just processed 3000 cans of film that was stored in a London bunker that has unusual celebrity footage, such as the exclusive coverage of Liz Taylor’s 40th birthday party. So we’re not just news; we are entertainment as well.”

AP Archives has a demanding metadata standard that aids researchers who work through their on-line system. Through a major re-organization, AP Archives now provides access to all of AP’s content, including video, photography, text, and sound banks. This is of increasing value to AP Archive’s multimedia clients, such as Cengage and Scholastic.

Claribel Torres will be AP Archive’s representative at the ACSIL FOOTAGE EXPO and advance appointments can be scheduled with Ms. Torres at 212.621.7623.
