By: District 33 Toastmasters “The District 33 Spring Conference is an opportunity for members from all corners of our District to celebrate and learn together. Guided by the past, and pointed to the future, this conference focuses on the qualities and power of Leadership. We are excited to have one of our mentors, past International President, Michael Notaro, as the Keynote Speaker with "TRUST IS A MUST",” said Katy Porter, District 33 Governor. "We will have images of Biplanes to represent creative vision and bravery, as our forefathers took early aviation to new levels." Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. Founded in October 1924, the organization currently has more than 280,000 memberships in 13,500–plus clubs in 116 countries. Each week, Toastmasters helps more than a quarter million people of every ethnicity, education and profession build their competence in communication so they can gain the confidence to lead others. The Organization is broken down into regions, then Districts, Divisions, Areas, and individual clubs. Toastmaster clubs have anywhere from eight to 30 members in them and meet on many different days of the week, and times of the day. District 33 of Toastmasters is comprised of over 200 individual Toastmaster clubs from Modesto to Santa Maria to Ventura to Bakersfield, CA and Southern Nevada. The agenda for Friday, May 1 includes the opening ceremony and a banner parade at 7pm, (physical representations of each club and its accomplishments) On Saturday morning, there will be a keynote presentation at 9:00 a.m. by Past International President Michael Notaro, called "Trust is a Must". "When talented people fail as leaders, it is because they lack a critical ingredient to leadership success: the ability to engender trust in others, said Michael Notaro. "Talent is not a substitute for trust. Trust is the assurance others feel when they know you are honest, committed and reliable. Successful leaders create trust in others by modeling high standards and living up to them. I will show you how to build trust, galvanize a following, tap unrealized potential and grow your leadership influence." The District Tall Tales Contest begins at 1 pm on Saturday and will feature contestants from nine divisions competing to deliver the best story, very loosely based in reality. The District International Contest begins after dinner. Contestants will battle for the District 33 Award and the winner will also compete at the International level, this summer at the Toastmasters International Conference in Las Vegas.
