Survey says that a wide margin of college graduates can’t write well

ATLANTA - April 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Published author and researcher Edward Brown of Core Edge Image & Charisma Institute has added an online writing tutoring service to the company in a quest to help more students become college prepared and workforce ready. A survey by the Workforce Solutions Group at St. Louis Community College found that more than 60% of employers said applicants lacked “communication and interpersonal skills...” A wide margin of managers also said today’s applicants can’t think critically and creatively, solve problems, or write well (White 2013).  After reading these statistics, Brown saw an opportunity to supplement high school and college education by applying graduate school methods to learning.  Brown introduced Atlanta Public School’s GED students to the IRAC Method taught in most law schools for critical thinking as well as the rudiments for writing master’s level thesis papers.  Brown credits using graduate school methodology as instrumental to improving high school students’ thinking and writing.

Brown, says, “I didn’t want to become involved in a ‘me too’ venture with the larger tutoring companies. When I read the Workforce Solutions Group survey, the need for better writing, critical thinking and problem solving skills resonated with me. With my law school experience coupled with a research-based master’s degree, I felt I could outcompete the larger tutoring companies by implementing graduate school level teaching to students. When previously low-performing students began researching and writing at a college level, I knew I was onto something. This venture affords me the opportunity to do good and well simultaneously.”
