 Lake Shore Toyota to Help Fight Leukemia with Team SarahThe local Toyota dealership is teaming up with the City of Portage to help Sarah Reeder fight leukemia.
Team Sarah The City of Portage and the local Toyota dealership, Lake Shore Toyota, are working together to help raise money in support of Team Sarah to help cover the medical costs of the ongoing treatment and the bone marrow transplant as well as helping to find an ideal bone marrow match. From April 17 to April 23, Lake Shore Toyota will donate $25 for each car sold to help fund Sarah Reeder's fight with leukemia; cash donations will also be accepted at the dealership's location in Burns Harbor at 244 Melton Rd. The City of Portage and Lake Shore Toyota area also encouraging area residents ages 18 to 44 to join the Marrow Donor Registry, as most leukemia patients require a bone marrow transplant and 70% of patients do not have an ideal match within their immediate family. Signup for the registry is occurring Thursday, April 16 from noon until 6:00 p.m. at Portage University, 6260 Central Ave, in Portage. Increasing the number of available donors for Sarah increases the likelihood that she will find a successful match and be on the way to recovery all the sooner. While the bone marrow testing process is as simple as swabbing the inside of a donor's cheek, the cost of processing the donor's tissue sample typically runs around $100, and the Marrow Donor Registry is also accepting donations to help offset the cost. Joining the Marrow Donor Registry helps people fight lymphoma and sickle cell anemia in addition to leukemia.
