Sacramento County Fair Drums Up Excitement with Japanese Drum Ensemble - Taiko Dan

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - April 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Sacramento, California - April 3, 2015 – The 2015 Sacramento County Fair is drumming up cultural excitement with the Japanese drum ensemble, Taiko Dan. This exciting troupe will appear on the Main Stage, for one day only, Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th.

Fair goers can transport themselves to another time and place as Taiko Dan pounds out the rhythmic sounds of an ancient culture.  The Japanese style of percussion combines music, movement and spirit. The spirit and force of the drummers produces powerful sound of drums and creates a dynamic and visually exciting art form. Their Mission is to study, preserve and promote the traditional and contemporary styles of Taiko drumming.

The audience will have the chance to see one of the largest collections of traditionally crafted instruments. These drums were created by Asano Taiko of Ishikawa, Japan, one of the premiere taiko builders in the world that has been crafting drums since 1609.

They are particularly proud to present the largest Nagado Odaiko drum in North America. Crafted by Asano Taiko from a solid log of bubinga wood from West Cameroon, this spectacular instrument measures nearly five feet across, six feet long, and rests nine feet high on its stand. Weighing almost 800 pounds, the sheer size and volume of their Odaiko drum produces a rich echoing voice. Its allure is universal as it evokes timeless emotions, which resonate within all audiences.

Over 100,000 guests will enjoy the Sacramento County Fair May 21-25, 2015 on the grounds of Cal Expo. Close to 10,000 school children enjoy free educational school tours.
