CINCINNATI - April 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Dr. John Brackett, author of Suffer the Little Children, will be recognized this Sunday, April 12, at the annual All-Star Authors event, sponsored by the Ohioana Library Association and presented by the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County. Dr. Brackett spent 25 years teaching history at the University of Cincinnati, retiring in 2012 as an associate professor, specializing in Italian Renaissance history.

The event, which will be held at 1:30 p.m., April 12, at the Main Library Reading Garden Lounge, 800 Vine St., is free and open to the public. The event will allow Hamilton residents to talk to their favorite authors and to buy signed copies as a part of the afternoon celebration, according to a PLCH prepared release.

Dr. Brackett is being honored for his recent book, Suffer the Little Children, a crime thriller set in Over The Rhine, against the backdrop of racial and class tensions stirred up by gentrification in OTR. Other issues like human trafficking in the Queen City emerge in this mystery, where little Black girls are being grabbed off the street, and the protagonist Iraq war veteran Ray King is given the task of trying to find the culprit after his girlfriend’s daughter is kidnapped.

“I am happy and honored to receive this recognition,” said Dr. Brackett. “It takes me closer to my goal of being an established Cincinnati, Ohio author.”

The Hamilton County All-Star Authors event is sponsored by the Ohioana Library Association, based in Columbus. The Ohioana Association was founded in 1929 by then First Lady of Ohio Martha Kinney Cooper, a native of Cincinnati. The organization’s mission now is to recognize and encourage the creative accomplishments of Ohioans, preserve, and expand a permanent archive of books, sheet music, manuscripts, and other materials by Ohioans and about Ohio, and disseminate information about to the general public.

“This is an annual celebration in Hamilton County, which has gone on for 50 years,” said David Riders, Popular Books Manager at PLCH and Ohioana Library Association board member. “Each year we recognize authors who were published in the past year and ones who were born in Hamilton County or who wrote about Hamilton County.”
