NEW YORK - April 8, 2015 - PRLog -- The St George Day Festival planned for April 25th rain or shine, is Staten Island New York’s largest Earth Day event  with exhibits, demonstrations and participatory activities to encourage people to think about our natural resources and environmental sustainability. St. George Day Festival will take place from Noon to 7pm in and around Tompkinsville Park in Staten Island New York City. This free, event across from the Staten Island ferry is a community pageant, performing arts showcase, literary event and interactive science fair and will include children's activities, family-oriented fun, outdoor art installations, live music, street performance, crafts and Earth Day demonstrations. Three of St. George Day’s signature offerings, the Earth Day Zone, the Festival Dragon Parade, and the giant puppet spectacle,“St. George & the Friendly Dragon,” will again be presented.

The  St George, Staten Island festival promotes communal pride, cooperative problem solving and sharing resources as foundations of a strong and sustainable neighborhood.

Each year festival organizers re-invent the  story of St George and the Dragon of mythology to explain how St George helps the community learn to hear each other and work things out peacefully, ultimately becoming allies who enrich each others lives. Everyone of all ages are rising to the task of reinventing our world, coming out to creatively celebrate our diverse community, and having a wonderful time together!

The celebrations include a giant puppet show that re-envisions the mythical story of St George and the dragon into one in which the protagonists resolve their conflict through mutual understanding and learning to share the natural resources in order to live peacefully together and  Dragon parade where kids can dress up as dragons or flower fairies who give out seed cards to onlookers.

The Earth Day events include workshops and activities on composting, healthy cooking, herb growing, plant and animal identification, tree stewardship, recycling and more!

The ST GEORGE DAY FESTIVAL 2015 is made possible in part by funding and people power from the Every Thing Goes Stores, GrowNYC, and by a DCA Premiere Grant from the Council on the Arts and Humanities on Staten Island with public funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and a grant from Partnerships for Parks of City of New York Parks & Recreation and the City Parks Foundation.
