McFerrin Smith Guest Speaker April 21st in Daytona BeachBy: Estate Planning Council of the Fun Coast Judge Smith will be discussing several topics including the practical side of probate, the top 3 pitfalls attorneys make, the new e-filing system, judicial resourcing, and understanding our system’s structure. Circuit Judge C. McFerrin Smith, III was appointed as a Volusia County Court judge in 1978 and was appointed to the circuit bench in 1981. Before becoming a judge, he was a judicial aide for the Florida Supreme Court, executive director of the Florida Law Revision Council, a faculty member at Stetson University’s College of Law and an assistant state attorney. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of the South and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida. Over the years, Judge Smith has heard traffic, civil, criminal and family cases and served as Chief Judge. He currently presides over probate and guardianship at the Volusia County Courthouse in DeLand and the Kim C. Hammond Justice Center in Bunnell. The event will take place from 8:00am until 10:00am at the Holiday Inn Daytona Beach LPGA, located at 137 AutoMall Circle. Reservations will be needed and the cost is $20 per person, payable at the door.
