OHA’s Chief Operating Officer resigns to start national property management franchise in Honolulu

HONOLULU - April 8, 2015 - PRLog -- HONOLULU – Last week, Kawika Burgess, Chief Operating Officer for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) formally announced his resignation to the organization’s staff and board of trustees.

In May, the former Kamehameha Schools Land Assets and Operations Manager plans to launch Real Property Management Alliance – a national property management franchise – in Honolulu.

“We are excited to be working with Kawika and his team. Our research shows that there is a growing need for professional residential property management services in Hawaii,” said Don Lawby, President of Real Property Management.

In a letter last Friday, Burgess informed employees that his last day at OHA is set for April 30.

“Serving as OHA’s Chief Operating Officer for the past year and a half was a great experience. I will definitely miss the people and the deep passion they have for OHA’s mission of serving Hawai‘i’s people,” said Burgess.

At OHA, his responsibilities included overseeing the day-to-day operations of approximately 170 employees and an operating budget of nearly $40 million. Burgess also was responsible for the oversight of landholdings for OHA, the 13^th largest landowner in Hawai‘i.

“I’m truly happy for Kawika as he starts his own business – something he’s wanted to do for a long time,” said OHA’s Chief Executive Officer, Kamana‘opono Crabbe.

“He brought so much to this organization, and for that we are truly grateful to him and wish him the best on his new journey.”

Although he’ll miss the staff and ohana-type work environment at OHA, Burgess is ready and excited for what lies ahead.

“I’m truly looking forward to this new venture. I’ve managed properties for some of the largest landowners in Hawaii, and I hope to provide that same level of service to individual property owners and investors,” said Burgess.
