Austin Dog Whisperer Announces "The Nose Knows" Fun Canine Search Scent Game

Domesticated dogs' past jobs have been replaced with urban ball games and leashed walks. We're bringing an exciting scent search game that puts the canine sense of smell to work with a fun job. It is portable, easy for humans, and pure dog joy!

AUSTIN, Texas - April 7, 2015 - PRLog -- "The Nose Knows" is an easy to learn activity which builds confidence in dogs and provides positive physical and mental challenges. It starts with getting your dog focused about using his nose to seek out a favorite toy or treat hidden in one of several boxes. We expand the game to entire rooms, throughout the house, and outside in the yard, and even down the block. As Fido confidently gets the hang of the game, we replace the favorite treat or toy with a natural safe scent like lavender, providing the trophy of the treat or toy each time Fido completes a successful search.

"A dog's sense of smell is a hundred to 1000 more powerful than ours," says Austin Dog Whisperer owner Lyndsey Adams. We smell one odor with vegetable soup. Dogs smell "each and every vegetable and spice in the soup singularly, and pick out the rosemary if that is what generates the reward. This is the underlying concept - albeit simplified - behind canine search and rescue."

While your dog is learning to search, you learn how to best motivate your dog. You also learn to read his body language on his path to each proud discovery. It is a small step to begin trusting your dog's behavior as you bring out his hunting drive and watch him tracking the trail of scent. This shared stimulation very naturally builds the human leader/canine follower bond with a new depth of mutual understanding.

"The Nose Knows" is a solo human/dog exercise designed to be easily replicated at home with no other dogs around. In a class setting, each dog works individually, resting during others' turns with no interaction or socialization. This is to ensure that each dog has the chance to learn and work without distractions or competition, and to digest his schooling between turns. During rest breaks, the dogs are either crated or can lounge in your vehicle if well-ventilated and in the shade. For pups with dog aggression or during the blistering summer heat, private home sessions are recommended.

Says Lyndsey, "This game provides a stress-free way for a dog owner to help her pup learn to enjoy a relationship of respectful responsiveness towards his human. And it diverts insecure dogs away from introverted caution and towards happy tail-wagging confidence."
