The 1st Annual Major Tommy Knight Skin Cancer Screening Proves Positive

MUSKOGEE, Okla. - April 7, 2015 - PRLog -- The 1st Annual Major Tommy Knight Skin Cancer Screening concluded on Tuesday, March 31st, 2015.  Dermatology Associates of Oklahoma organized the event to provide free skin cancer screenings to all city of Muskogee employees. The event was named after Major Tommy Knight, a melanoma survivor.

“This event enabled our providers to identify a number of skin cancers including two cases of melanoma,” said Robert E. Nevin,  “and we're very proud to have organized an event in the community that may very well have saved lives.”

Skin cancer is on the rise, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, with more cases diagnosed annually than breast, prostate, lung and colon cancer cases combined.  Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer because of how fast it spreads to other parts of the body, accounts for only 2% of skin cancer cases but is responsible for the majority of skin cancer deaths.

“While skin cancer is the most common of all cancers it is also the easiest to cure, if diagnosed and treated early” added Nevin, “but people must take that first step and get the diagnosis from a professional.”

Dermatology Associates of Oklahoma is already in the planning stages for The 2nd Annual Major Tommy Knight Skin Cancer Screening which is tentatively  scheduled to be held in January of 2016.
