Sting! XX: Animal Instinct... An Evening of Art, Music and Performance at Boston’s Beehive

The Beehive’s 20th Installment in its Continuing Art Series
By: The Beehive

BOSTON - April 7, 2015 - PRLog -- WHAT: On Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015 from 6:30PM - 8:30PM, The Beehive's co-owner and resident curator Jennifer Epstein and special guest curator Kate Gilbert are pleased to present the 20th installment in The Beehive's continuing art series entitled Sting! 20: Animal Instinct, featuring nine artists whose work explores the wild side of humanity.

Instinct is a survival tool both humans and animals employ but it’s only humans who employ rational thinking to “check” or inhibit their impulses. Animal Instinct reveals these habits and how easily they can become unchecked through the mediums of photography, paint, print, and sculpture. Works in the exhibition explore issues of manufactured desire, ideal representation of both animals and men, repressed and expressed sexual instinct, joyful bodily expression, and the personification of animals. From sensual desire to seeing the world through a limited human perspective, this exhibition highlights the messiness of being human –  of being both part of the animal world, and yet separate from it.

The ongoing Sting! series always signifies the launch of a new art installation at The Beehive and highlights an evening of great live entertainment, food & libation specials along with amazing art! For this 20th installment, Jennifer Epstein invited artist and guest curator Kate Gilbert to bring together a remarkable group of artists from all over New England. Kate Gilbert is an artist and curator exploring the role the arts and artists play in transforming our cities, our relationships, and ourselves. Gilbert is the director of the public art group Now and There www.nowandthere.org (formerly UrbanArts) and the curator of the Lawn on D’s ArtLAB.
