DALLAS - April 7, 2015 - PRLog -- McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., a Texas builder for 36 years, and the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) along with dignitaries and community leaders  recently broke ground Saturday, March 14, on the METRO Harrisburg Overpass project located in Houston’s  East End. This project will be the final piece of METRO’s Green Line which travels through downtown to the Magnolia Transit Center.

“McCarthy is proud to be involved in the completion of the final phase of this piece of METRO’s LRT system.   The system is an integral part of the city’s transportation plan and will increase mobility for residents of Houston,” said McCarthy Texas Region President Mike McWay. “McCarthy has vast experience working on transportation projects throughout Texas and beyond, and we are committed to delivering this project on schedule to help improve Houston’s transit system and connectivity for the East End community.”

The $27 million project will involve construction of a 2,400-linear-foot grade separation at the Houston Belt and Terminal (HBT) and Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) railroad tracks located west of Hughes Road. It will include a bridge structure with aesthetic architectural features, two 16-foot wide vehicular traffic lanes, a 26-foot LRT guideway located in the center of the bridge structure, and two 5-foot wide emergency walkways on each side of the bridge.

The project will also include aesthetic street lighting on top and underneath the structure, new storm drainage and 16-foot wide frontage roads and sidewalks with at-grade crossings over the HBT/UPRR railroad tracks. The overpass is set to be complete in only12 months.

McCarthy’s Texas Division has completed numerous similar bridge and railroad grade separation projects under heavy traffic conditions, including the Trinity Railway Express bridge in Irving, Texas and the recently completed Texas A&M Wellborn Road Underpass project in College Station, Texas.
