TROY, Mich. - April 7, 2015 - PRLog -- Detroit Filmmaker Teddy Dorsette III overcomes a life-time of adversity to premiere his debut film at the Toronto International Deaf Film Festival. Teddy Dorsette III’s dream of becoming a filmmaker was achieved last year when he graduated from the Motion Picture Institute of Michigan.  The film, “Silent Life,” a semi-autobiographical short, will make it's world premiere at the Toronto International Deaf Film Festival on May 27-31, 2015 in Toronto, Canada.

“Teddy has a great cinematic eye and always has something to say. He's chosen moviemaking to help express his feelings”. Douglas Schulze, Founder and CEO of MPI and mentor to Teddy stated: “Silent Life is quite powerful and everyone at MPI is very proud of him”.

Silent Life is a film about a young man (Teddy), who struggles to find balance between two worlds -- hearing and deaf. He is an aspiring student who braves the hearing world to shatter barriers and find his journey as a man. Along the way, he meets a hearing girl named Isabel, who takes hold of his heart, but struggles to navigate smoothly along the deaf/hearing relationship line. Along the way he gets advice - learning valuable lessons from both the hearing and deaf alike. Watch as Teddy navigates the frustratingly thin line between two worlds, and find out what happens in the end.

A proud U of M Alumni and recent MPI 2014 grad, In 2005, Dorsette III co-founded Teddyboy Entertainment LLC with his late father, who was also a Filmmaker and Producer. He also has established a non-profit organization, Reel Def Entertainment, in 2014 with the goal of helping Deaf and hard-of-hearing children and young adults pursue their passions in the film and entertainment industries.

Teddy is very excited for his film to be shown and hopes that it touches many and spreads the message of what it may be like to be deaf/hard of hearing in today’s world.
