State Farm® sends Denver Elementary Schoolers toYoung AmeriTowne
Sponsorship supports at-risk youth

Denver (April 7, 2015) – State Farm has announced a one-year, $30,000 sponsorship to send five at-risk elementary school groups to Young AmeriTowne, the hands-on lesson in free enterprise created and hosted by Young Americans Center for Financial Education. StateFarm has now given a total of $250,000 over the past ten years to Young Americans’ Send-a-School program.

The funds allow each school to send between 60 and 120 4th and 5th graders.  These students will complete 30 hours of lessons in the classroom before coming to Young AmeriTowne for one day to run a kid-sized town of 17 shops.  The in-class lessons consist of civics, including an election and law creation; finances, which teach check writing, register balancing, debit card use and loans; and job application, where students complete a resume, fill out a job application and go through an interview process.

“StateFarm has been a long-time supporter of the Young AmeriTowne Send-a-School program,” said Young Americans Center President and CEO, Richard Martinez.  “We are grateful for their continued partnership, which allows hundreds of students to experience our unique program and learn valuable lessons that will enable them to be responsible, successful citizens.”

“We are thrilled to continue our support of the Send-a-School program and once again partner with Young Americans.  Now, many hundreds of at-risk, low-income youth will have the same access to the unique Young AmeriTowne program as all other students,” said State Farm Agent Denise Smith.

State Farm’s sponsorship fully funds the participation of all students involved, including the workbooks, supplies, and experience at Young AmeriTowne.  State Farm employees will also have the opportunity to volunteer with the students they are supporting.  Volunteers will conduct the job interview in the classroom and also assist the students as they run Young AmeriTowne for a day.
