Shutts & Bowen’s Jacqueline F. Howe Named Vice Chair of YMCA of South Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - April 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Jacqueline F. Howe, partner in the Fort Lauderdale office of Shutts & Bowen LLP (http://www.shutts.com), has been named vice chair of the YMCA of South Florida (http://ymcaofsouthflorida.org), the new umbrella organization merging the YMCAs of Greater Miami, Broward, and Monroe.

“Shutts & Bowen and the YMCA have been closely linked for almost a century, and it’s gratifying to see a new generation of leadership demonstrating a commitment to the South Florida community’s future,” said Bowman Brown, chair of Shutts & Bowen’s executive committee.

In April 1916, Shutts & Bowen’s founder “Colonel” Frank Shutts hosted the first meeting of the Young Men’s Christian Association of Miami at the firm’s law library at the Burdines Building on East Flagler Street. He chaired the YMCA’s first fundraising committee in 1918, when the Y’s main building opened with 85 dorm rooms, a dining room, and an employment bureau. He was also the organization’s treasurer for many years.

Since then, Shutts & Bowen partners have often served on the leadership of the YMCA boards in South Florida.

Active in the South Florida community, Ms. Howe, a litigation partner, is a longtime board member of the YMCA of Broward County, where she has served on the executive committee since 2012. She is a trustee of the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and has been a member of the Women’s Leadership Council of the United Way of Broward County, among other civic and professional organizations.
