Follow on Google News | Lucy died from Pediatric CardiomyopathySara Farmer, Lucy's mother, wants to share about Lucy. Her message is she wants people to" risk" saying the wrong thing and talk to the person who has lost a child through death about their child. She would also like us to support this research.
By: Quality of Life Care, LLC Lucy appeared perfectly normal and healthy until the age of 8 months. After her parents noticed consistently fast breathing, they took her to the pediatrician, thinking she had RSV. By that evening, she was admitted to the pediatric ICU at Dell Children's Medical Center with a diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy or enlarged heart. She was released after 10 days on medication with a hopeful prognosis. Within a month, that prognosis began to dim. She continued to deteriorate and was hospitalized for three weeks in first Austin, then Dallas, at 12 months. She came home in March 2013 listed at Status 2 for heart transplant. She died suddenly in her sleep at home two months later, on Mother's Day. Sara and Chris were happy to discover she was pregnant a month after Lucy's death. Sadly, that pregnancy ended with a missed miscarriage and a D&C three months later. She became pregnant again in November 2013. They welcomed a second daughter named Scarlett in July 2014 (4 days after her big brother's 5th birthday). Sara still resides in Austin with her husband, kids, and two cats. She has two brothers and a sister and 12 nieces and nephews. When she's not spending time with her family and friends, she reads, writes (she has a blog and has been published on Mamalode magazine's website, as well as Voices for Vaccines' "Parents Who Vax" blog), and sings in SoCo Women's Chorus. She is also a passionate advocate for pediatric cardiomyopathy, vaccines, feminism, and animal rights. She is the captain of Team Lucy, founded in her daughter's memory and the number one community team in the Austin Heart Walk two years running. She has also led a passion committee for American Heart Association- Podcast at www(dot)journeypodcast( End
