Travel Photographer Arun Bhat wins HIPA photography award in Dubai

BANGALORE, India - April 4, 2015 - PRLog -- Arun Bhat's image of young monks chasing each other, was awarded the first prize in this year's major category - Life in Colours. The 2014-15 season of the competition saw 60,162 image submitted by 30,878 photographers from 166 countries. Arun made this photograph in a Buddhist monastery deep in Himalayas, while staying with the monks with an intent to document their lives. Commenting on the image, HIPA said, "Every evening, the young monks of the temple are given time off to play in an open area nearby. These young monks, in their richly coloured robes, manifest the true meaning of enthusiasm and cheerfulness, unlike the greyness of the walls behind them."

HIPA is one of the heavily contested international photography awards known for its total prize money running up to US$4,00,000 (about 2.48 crores). The first prize in the main category of this year - Life in Colour, which was won by Arun Bhat carries a prize money of US$25,000 (about 15 lakhs).

About Arun Bhat:

Arun Bhat is a professional photographer based in Bangalore, India.

He is known for his extensive work on vivid travel imagery from India and neighbouring Asian Countries. He has been travelling and photographing in South and South East Asia for the past ten years, creating a rich bank of visuals and stories of people and places along the way.
