April 1, 2015 - PRLog -- Under the banner The Hexham Abbey Project, Hexham Abbey has transformed its newly-reacquired former Priory buildings, the Carnaby Building and the former Tynedale Magistrates’ Court, into a heritage centre intended to benefit the whole region. TGA Consulting Engineers specified three Remeha Quinta Pro 90 gas condensing boilers on a free-standing, in-line cascade system with low loss header to provide energy-efficient, low carbon and NOx heating throughout the refurbished buildings.

Garry Norton, M&E Consultant at TGA Consulting Engineers, commented, “Remeha have a reputation for quality and reliability and the service they offer to us, as a specifier, is second to none. This project demands a high efficiency and reliable thermal energy source to ensure that energy cost is reduced and that the services which Hexham Abbey provide to the local and wider community are met without disruption.”

Given the restrictions of the small plant room and the tight deadline, the delivery of the Quinta Pro gas condensing boilers on site in a quality-controlled, pre-assembled wheeled unit proved the perfect solution, enabling quick and easy installation and accurate matching of heat output demand in a fraction of the space.

Luke Ellwood, M&E Contractor at Vaughan Engineering, explained, “The irregular features of this historic building required a flexible and compact heating solution that would allow the installation to be customised to suit the tight space constraints of the plant room. The Remeha Quinta Pro cascade system with low loss header provided us with numerous different installation options which resulted in a neat and functional system, whilst also ensuring that the maintenance requirements of the unit were achieved.”

The Hexham Abbey Project reunites the medieval monastic complex for the first time in 500 years. The project has been funded by a £1.8m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and supplemented by additional funds raised by the congregation, the community and grant-making trusts. The new centre provides a permanent exhibition to interpret the history of Hexham Abbey, as well as public spaces including community meeting rooms, and conference, function and wedding facilities.

The architect was Purcell Miller Tritton, with specialist restoration, conservation and refurbishment company William Anelay Ltd the main contractors on the project. The M&E Consultant was TGA Consulting Engineers (Durham); the M&E Contractor was Vaughan Engineering (Newcastle Office) led by Luke Ellwood.

The market-leading Remeha Quinta Pro range of fully modulating condensing boilers offers outputs from  8.9 to 114 kW, high efficiencies of ≤ 98% GCVand excellent ultra-low NOx emissions for environmentally-friendly, energy-efficient heating and hot water production.
