Children Learn Site Safety Thanks To Visit from Miller Homes

April 1, 2015 - PRLog -- Children at Starbeck Primary School took part in a school safety week and in recognition of the dangers that building sites can pose; local housebuilder Miller Homes paid them a visit.

Paul Fairlamb, Area Health and Safety Manager and Beth McDonagh sales adviser at the housebuilder’s Quercus Green development, gave the children an informative but enjoyable presentation on staying safe and the dangers any construction site can hold.

“It’s really important to us that we educate the children not only about staying away from our sites but also sow the seeds about health and safety in the workplace and the need for safeguarding measures such as appropriate policies and safety equipment,” said Paul Fairlamb Area Health and Safety Manager. “It was great to form part of the school’s safety week as they learnt all about safety awareness, accident prevention and their responsibilities in staying safe in everyday life.”

During the presentation children learnt about safety signs, the ways in which building sites are dangerous places for anyone without safety training and also had fun dressing up in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

“We extend our thanks to Paul and Miller Homes for providing such an informative talk for the children and raising their awareness of the dangers of construction sites,” commented Sally Pitts Deputy Head Teacher Starbeck Primary School. “By making our children aware of the dangers, and the measures in place to make hazards as safe as possible, we hope that we have equipped them to be responsible and to make sensible decisions about where they go to play.”

Miller Homes hopes to be able to visit other schools in the region to raise awareness of the dangers of building sites and how they are made safe for its work force.
