Venison Charcuterie producer awarded in Scottish Rural Awards

Great Glen Charcuterie has been named runner up in the Artisan Food category of the 2015 Scottish Rural Awards Gala Dinner on Thursday (26 March).
 
March 31, 2015 - PRLog -- The Scottish Rural Awards celebrates the true industry, innovation, dedication and aspiration of those who live and work in rural areas, highlighting their triumphs and the difficulties they have had to overcome in order to thrive.

Jan Jacob Baak, director of Great Glen Charcuterie, said: “We are very proud that we have been awarded runner-up for this category. Producing excellent food of the highest standards by using the natural resource of wild deer on our doorstep has always been our highest priority.  It feels great to get the appreciation and recognition from the judging panel.”

The new awards and their gala awards dinner are the first major event of a five-year partnership between Scottish Field magazine and the Scottish Countryside Alliance to celebrate the entrepreneurship of rural businesses.

A long-time benchmark of excellence in the countryside, The Scottish Countryside Alliance Awards have gained significant following and respect for championing and demonstrating the rural industry’s innovation, dedication and aspirations. The awards are judged by an esteemed panel of industry leaders and experts.

Winners and runners-up awards were unveiled at a ceremony on Thursday at Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh.

Great Glen Charcuterie is based in the Highlands of Scotland. It was established in 2003 by Jan Jacob Baak. He started producing smoked venison made with prime cuts of local wild venison. Over the years he has developed new innovative products such as Chorizo, Pepperoni, Salami and a Bresaola all made with sustainably sourced local wild venison.

Their products are sold in delicatessens across the UK including Fortnum & Mason, Wholefoods, The House of Bruar and used by Michelin starred chefs.

With its lean meat, low cholesterol and low calorie, the wild venison products are proving very popular by customers and chefs and fit into a healthy lifestyle.
