AUSTIN, Texas - March 31, 2015 - PRLog -- “How well do you know your body?” is a seemingly simple question that often has a not-so-simple answer. Groove, a trusted source for women’s reproductive health education and makers of the “Groove - Period & Fertility Tracker” app for iPhone, is launching a campaign today to highlight the relationship between body literacy and heightened confidence and self-esteem in women. Groove teamed up with Austin’s Video Review Labs to conduct a social experiment to see just how well women know their bodies. Sex education classes provide girls with only a basic understanding of how their bodies work, leading to body image issues and a sense of embarrassment during puberty that often persist into adulthood.

“Like many girls, I spent a majority of my teenage years suffering from body image issues, a lack of confidence, and a huge sense of hatred towards my body,” said Jennifer Aldoretta, cofounder and CEO of Groove. “It wasn’t until I was in my twenties that I uncovered the root of my suffering: a lack of education. My whole world changed when I finally gained a deep understanding of how my reproductive system works, and I want to show girls and women that our bodies don’t have to feel so mysterious and unreliable. Our bodies don’t have to be a source of shame. If Groove’s #KnowYou campaign helps even one person, then I consider it a huge success.”

Groove’s #KnowYou video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PzfJ4caalY) shows that the women involved, regardless of age or how well they know themselves, do not have a good understanding of how their bodies work. When asked why this knowledge gap exists, they suggested that doctors and subpar sex education, among others, could be among the culprits.

Groove wants to show women that getting to know their bodies can provide a huge sense of empowerment. Groove is encouraging people to use the hashtag #KnowYou to share the ways that getting to know their bodies has had an affect on them.
