WOLCOTT, Conn. - March 30, 2015 - PRLog -- To help families navigate healthcare systems and to act as patient care advocate, Liza Lavado Kaye of Wolcott, Connecticut has launched Lighthouse Healthcare Advocacy LLC as an ‘all-in-one’ resource center. Kaye’s ambition is to help residents throughout the Greater Waterbury, Hartford and New Haven Countyareas with health care issues and patient-centered care. “My work is directed toward helping families coordinate effective healthcare from doctors and medical teams for their loved ones, and to become an expert in each of my client’s illnesses while providing them with attentive and caring direction.”

Kaye’s Lighthouse Healthcare Advocacy’s services include researching an individual’s illness and prescribed treatments; interviewing a variety of potential healthcare providers; accompanying patients to doctor and lab appointments; attending to a patient at their hospital bedside; working with insurance companies including constructing appeals when coverage is denied; reviewing all insurance and doctors’ bills for possible unrecognizable charges. Additionally, Kaye helps families locate nursing homes, assisted living facilities, rehabilitation facilities, adult day care, and home healthcare aids for their loved ones.

“My commitment is to patient empowerment by providing resourceful and professional services on an individual basis.” Dedicated to navigating the healthcare system on behalf of her clients, Kaye shares her knowledge to help individuals and their families make informed medical decisions. She states that her services offer invaluable ‘peace of mind’ to her clients and their families and that she, “possesses the ability to convert the challenges facing patients into positive results.”

A specialist on the Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare”, Lighthouse Healthcare Advocacy’s clients span from a toddler with Cancer to a teenager with Juvenile Diabetes to an adult with Heart Disease and elderly individuals with Prostate Cancer, Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Kaye offers a special concentration on women with Breast Cancer as her mother is a Breast Cancer survivor. During the past 20 years, she has also been a healthcare advocate for her family and friends and her twin brother who is cognitively impaired with Cerebral Palsy.

One of Kaye’s expertise is working with the elderly. “Very often adult children of the elderly cannot take time from work to accompany their parents to the doctor, or they may live out of state,” explained Kaye. “That is where my advocacy services are gratefully welcomed.” Prior to a client’s doctor appointment, Kaye gathers notes based on her research to present as inquiries to the doctor or medical team so she can present appropriate medical questions when her client may be too overwhelmed to think objectively.

Fluent in Portuguese, Kaye isaDartmouth College 1990 graduate with a B.A. in English Literature. After graduation, she attended Georgetown University Graduate School and studied Human Physiology. Most recently, she graduated from the Alfus Healthcare Advocacy Program at the University of Miami in November 2013. Among her studies were courses in: Understanding the Patient Illness Experience, Ethical Issues in Healthcare, and Health Law.

Amelia Martins of Unionville, Conn. commented, “Liza really eased my mind. She went with me to my doctor’s appointment and helped me understand what the doctor was saying. I speak Portuguese and am limited in my ability to write in English. She completed medical forms on my behalf.” Another client, Chris Bader, added “Liza provided extraordinary care and service to my family when we were struggling with decisions concerning my mother’s care. She explained my mother’s disability and available treatments. She also connected us with health care professionals and trained in-home care providers to help make my mother's transition home safe and comfortable. She offered assistance at every step of the process. Liza's knowledge and professionalism made us confident we were making the best decisions for my mother's care."
