2015 Children’s Hero of the Year Award Finalists Released

Winners to be announced at the Gala on the Bayou in Louisiana. All proceeds will benefit Eckerd's CenLa Wraparound Agency. Tickets and sponsorship opportunities still available.

ALEXANDRIA, La. - March 27, 2015 - PRLog -- Eckerd CenLa Wraparound – Eckerd announced the finalists of the 2015 Children’s Heroes of the Year award as nominated by the community. This award recognizes those unsung heroes in our community that have had a profound and positive impact on the lives of children in Central Louisiana, through their time, talent and treasure.

The finalists will be honored and the winner of each category will be announced at the 2015 Children’s Hero of the Year Awards Gala at 6:00 pm April 23rd, 2015 at the Willowbench Meeting Place, 638 Main Street Pineville, LA.  Guests will be treated to dinner and live entertainment and we will recognize the three finalists for the award at the Gala. Each nominee has given back selflessly to this community, making a positive impact on the children in this area.

Mr. Walter “Wally” Fall was recognized for more than 40 years of dedication to coaching high school swimmers in Rapides Parish. Mr. Fall has led Alexandria Senior High to win district every year since 1992 with the exception of 2002 and 2003, as well as coached multiple All-American Swimmers in this area. He continued to give back to his community by recruiting other coaches to take over high school swimming for the schools within this area.

Ms. Lynda Ellington has been a teacher for the Rapides Parish School Board for 24 years placing a strong emphasis on the reading and language skills for young students with disabilities. Throughout Ms. Ellington’s career, she strived to ensure that the needs for secondary students were addressed. Ms. Ellington also assisted with developing the girls’ soccer program for Rapides Parish High school in order to fulfill the need for women’s athletics.

Mr. Darrell Jones has served with the Alexandria Police Department for the past 32 years, 23 of which have been in the juvenile division. Mr. Jones has a passion for the youth that he serves as evidence by his many years of dedicated service. Mr. Jones has remained actively involved within the community by serving on the LA Juvenile Officers Association, and continuing to participate in the Magnolia State Peace Officers Association.

The nominations for the Children’s Hero of the Year were submitted by fellow community members. Finalists were chosen by a panel of Eckerd Advisory Council members who individually made their selections based purely on the information provided within the nominations. The final recipient will be decided by a panel of Eckerd Advisory Council members and will be announced during the 2015 Children’s Hero of the Year gala.

All proceeds from the 2015 Children’s Hero of the Year gala will benefit Eckerd for a great cause ~ children.   Event proceeds will maintain and enhance youth and family program services to vulnerable children in the Central LA area.

In Central Louisiana, Eckerd serves children and teenagers struggling with behavioral, mental health and addiction disorders who are at risk of being placed outside the home. Eckerd provides services to these young people and their families based on a national, results-based model, the National Wraparound Initiative. Eckerd involves families as active partners and uses a team-based approach to coordinate services across multiple systems—including family, youth, community, schools, and agencies. Services are provided in the home as well as in community settings. This program earns positive feedback from both parents and the young people Eckerd serves. Eckerd Wraparound Agency has been proudly serving youth and families in Rapides, Avoyelles, Vernon, Winn, Grant, Catahoula, LaSalle, and Concordia Parish since 2012.
