By: KNCE

TAOS, N.M. - March 27, 2015 - PRLog -- TAOS, New Mexico – March 24, 2015 – KNCE 93.5 FM, True Taos Radio, is a new experiment in community grassroots media in Taos, New Mexico. KNCE is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to move their antennae to a new tower.

KNCE went on the air in October 2014, and is broadcasting from a 1978 Airstream Excella on Taos Mesa in northern New Mexico. The radio station is owned by Taos Adventures, LLC, a collaboration between four Taos entities: Roots and Wires Presents, Walking Rain Productions, LiveTaos.com, and Ravensong Productions. The Airstream is parked behind Taos Mesa Brewing.

With over sixty-five dedicated volunteer DJs, KNCE is producing completely original, freeform content seven days a week. Programs cover a near-exhaustive list of genres, includinggospel, K-Pop, electronica, jazz, Americana, punk, blues, metal, new music, and more, as well as talk, interview, and community-centric programming. Find the full schedule at truetaosradio.com/schedule.

KNCE is true community radio –neither public nor commercial, KNCE is bringing a hybrid model to the airwaves which focuses on putting the community and the listeners first. “Radio has the power to be a uniting force,” says KNCE programming director John Henderson, “and that potential is what True Taos Radio strives to share with our community.”

In this spirit, the station’s approach to paid airtime is listener-friendly and driven heavily by DJ live reads, similar to the “underwriting” model used by public radio. You’ll never hear a jingle or a long block of commercials on KNCE. “We believe this model best-serves both our listeners and our advertisers,” says Rita O’Connell, communications director for KNCE. “It allows us to bring supporters and community businesses onto the airwaves with us at affordable rates, without alienating listeners who are prone to change the dial during long commercial blocks.”

The Kickstarter campaign runs through April 9, 2015; they’re working to raise $32,000, which will cover the costs of equipment, fees, studies, and labor required to move the antennae to a new tower. “This tower move will increase the range and quality of our local signal,” says KNCE tech director Max Moulton, “which is critical for the long-term sustainability of the station.”

KNCE is on the dial in Taos at 93.5FM, and streams free online worldwide at truetaosradio.com (http://www.truetaosradio.com/).
